Frequently Asked Questions ~

Welcome!

As you can see there have been a lot of questions come up and we have tried to answer them all here. Some answers are very blunt, due to the fact that people do not tend to read the whole way through.

This website - here - is THE ONLY PLATFORM we take open commission requests on. We will send you the request links if you DM us anywhere else asking for commissions. We will NOT answer commission requests in any other format, other than the request link, on socials.

WE DO NOT take sale requests on Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMS, Instagram COMMENTS, TeDoo comment sections, or DeviantArt “walls” or any other platform’s DMs. That is too chaotic and never works out. If you DO NOT see your desired commission listing, please reach out through the contact page on my website, to insure an actual response. Questions like “do you make this?” but with ZERO context, images, or links to back that up, will be ignored.

Other FAQ’s

Are your patterns copyrighted?

YES.

ANYTHING THAT WE MAY PUBLISH UNDER OUR NAME IS CONSIDERED COPYRIGHTED.

We do not write patterns often, but when we do, they are work that came from us, Red specifically. You may NOT take that file and share it elsewhere under your name. Or try to take it as your own. You cannot use OUR photos to promote YOUR work, or anything of the kind. The patterns will be released HERE and on Raverly, only.

WE ARE on TeDoo as an artist - the app that is (unfortunately) famous for people posting COPYRIGHTED and STOLEN work. If we CATCH YOU posting OUR copyrighted material on that app, IN ANY FORM, you WILL BE BANNED FROM OUR STORE, OUR TEEDOO SHOP, AND ALL OF OUR PLATFORMS INDEFINITELY. You will also receive a takedown notice. Red was a photographer for a very long time, prior to this career, and we do NOT mess with copyright. Do not test us on this. This is your ONE and ONLY warning.

Do you take commissions?

If you can see the commissions listing in the store, then yes, we are currently taking commissions. Each commission listing has specific questions tailored to that commission. It’ll be in a pop-up at check out. Please be as detailed as possible, so we can create the best thing for you!

If you CANNOT see the commission listings at all, it means that currently the commissions window is closed. This likely means we have a commission line up to fulfill and cannot take on anymore requests at that specific time. Please revisit the page later, when commission slots might open back up. Alternatively, please follow us on Instagram or Facebook, to stay up-to-date on commission slots openings or closings! Thank you.

Are the toys safe for children?

All makes are safe for kids above the age of three years of age, naturally. Most pieces uses “safety eyes” which are regarded as “not safe for children under three.” These pieces are pressed into the make, sometimes, reinforced with glue, but if your young child is an active chewer, I would recommend ordering a custom make and asking for CROCHETED or FELT eyes, instead, that can be sewed on. If you’re child is not someone who bites toys, or puts the make in their mouth, then all toys are considered safe. We order yarn from quality reputable places like Hobbii Yarn - which is compliance with UK standards, Premier Yarns - which is compliant with International Standards, and from big brands like JoAnn’s and Michael’s for other sources.

Any PREMIUM make is made with high quality wool from Indie dyers, who go above and beyond to make the best quality materials for high end makes and desires. That said, if you are ALLERGIC TO WOOL, there are options in the custom orders to request Acrylic, Cotton, or Bamboo specific fibers.

Are the toys safe for pets?

This answer depends on your pet. Is your pet an active destroyer of all toys? If yes, NOT recommended to placed near pets. All of the toy makes are filled with Polyfil, which is a great material for stuffing. NOT a great material to be INGESTED by animals - if you suspect your dog has gotten ahold of a toy, you’ll need to see a VET, as over consumption of stuffing, can cause a digestive clog. This is true for ANY KIND of stuffed animal you may purchase for your pet. Included from stores like Petco. If your animal just carries their toys, and doesn’t rip into them, then generally, the make is safe to be around your animal. That said, it’s still a handmade toy, so probably should be kept out of the reach of animals, across the board. However, we don’t tell you what to do in your own home, once the make is out of our hands.

Are the makes made in a pet free environment?

Short answer: No, but they can be!

If made in the home studio, no, they are not. We have four cats, a dog, and a chinchilla. Who, while not they’re immediately IN the studio room, can still be considered “around the materials”.

HOWEVER, as of February 2025, I will have outside-of-the-home studio space. THAT studio space will have animal-free yarn.

ALL commission requests will reflect the option to be made “in a pet free environment” or not, depending on whether or not you care, and will be a mandatory question on the custom forms.

ALL makes are given considerable care before shipping to remove anything in relation to pets, anyway. With wearables being washed before being sent out.

How do I care for my items?

The BEST possible way to care for handmade items, is to spot clean only.

The next best, is to have something dry cleaned.

We understand though, that accidents can happen, and a make might have to be washed.

If that is the case, please wash and dry on a DELICATE cycle in the washer and dryer. Everything is made with tight stitching, AND reinforced stitching, when sewing, so a make should hold. That said, do not make it a routine habit of washing, if you’d like to keep the longevity of the make alive.

With wearables: made with cotton, or bamboo - they can be washed more frequently, but we still recommend a delicate cycle.

With wool makes, it is wash on your own terms. Shrinkage is possible in a dryer, so it is best left to air dry, and DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER. Once something leaves the studio, we are NOT responsible for shrinkage.

If something is felted, it is recommended that things are spot treated only.

Can I modify this make?

Please don’t. Please do NOT try to trim, cut apart, remove stitches, or alter your make in any way. If you snip the fiber, regardless of what kind it is, it can cause severe and irreversible damage to the make that can lead to unraveling of the whole thing. Do not try to remove anything on your own. If you don’t want added embellishments, please state that your commission form. There is plenty of space to be as detailed as you’d like.

IF YOU CUT YOUR MAKE ON PURPOSE, WE WILL NOT REFUND YOU. That was a YOU decision, and we are not remaking something FOR FREE.

Everything that we send out, is a “final product”. If you decided to alter your make in any capacity, that is at your own risk. We are no longer responsibility for anything outside our studio.

What if something gets damaged in the mail?

If something was damaged in shipping we require PHOTO PROOF of the damage in the package, upon ARRIVAL and within 6 HOURS of shipment delivery (we get delivery confirmations). The make must STILL BE IN THE BAG with damage. Bags surrounding makes are clear, so we should be able to see the damage. Video proof will go the extra mile. Again, if a make is damaged because YOU chose to alter it or mess with it, that is NOT reimbursable.

Do you accept returns?

No.

Especially on customs. You will have filled out a detail heavy form for a commission and we will have updated you the whole way through the process. If you are unhappy with a make while it’s being made, it can be modified right then and there. If you are unhappy with a make after all the communication, and approval, I’m sorry you are disappointed.

However, you would have “okayed” the process, so the make is considered done.

Each make takes somewhere between FOUR and THIRTY-SIX+ hours to craft. (With keychains being the only exception). Which is why there is communication throughout the process, so you are happy with what you are getting!

THE ONLY TIME I WILL ACCEPT A RETURN IS IF IT WAS SHIPPED TO AN ADDRESS THAT IS NOT YOURS AND GOT SHIPPED BACK TO ME BY THE CARRIER. Even then, I’d hope you’d catch that and correct it prior to shipment. If not, I’d be happy to mail it to your NEW address, but only if there’s been thorough communication. I do not respond to DEMANDS.

ALL DIGITAL PRODUCTS ARE NON_REFUNDABLE. This includes PDF Downloads, Video Downloads, or Portal Payment Access. Once one of these items has been purchased and delivered to you, we cannot extract those files from you (nor have that desire), so therefore, we cannot refund you. Enjoy that digital thing.

Why do you require a 50% non-refundable commission deposit?

Because makes take somewhere between four and thirty-six+ hours to make.

We take our time very seriously, and as such, should you cancel your order, there were still hours put in. We have to be compensated for that time, as well as the materials used. The other 50% of the fee cost (if you paid in full upfront) would be reimbursed.

How can I contact you?

We are available for BASIC, non-commission related questions via Instagram, Facebook, Discord, and email to answer questions (@sweetieknots). We are not available via phone, unless specifically granted.

Outside of learning classes in person, or in the portal (coming 2025), I am not available to teach your how to crochet, at random. This is my full time job, on top of being a caregiver, and I quite simply cannot teach everyone. If you’d like to learn how to crochet, you’ll eventually be able to sign up for in-person events, or lessons through the portal, but that is on a first-come-first-serve basis, when those are open. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials that can teach and help you along, outside of my guidance!

Do you ever do pre-orders?

Rarely. But that doesn’t mean, it can’t happen! Should I run one, there will be a full description on when you can expect to see an item. Remember that everything here is handmade, which means it’s done BY HAND. That takes time. We are NOT machines, nor do we use a factory to make things go at record speeds. This isn’t Amazon.

There will be an estimated turn around time - usually larger than three weeks.

If you have NO patience, do NOT place a pre-order. Wait until the listing is READY to GO in the store. Understand that pre-orders will be shipped out FIRST. All remaining inventory would be listed, thereafter.

I placed a custom order…when will I receive it?

Hey, thanks so much for your support! Depending on the item, will depend on the estimated turnaround time! Small things, like keychains, typically take a week or less - unless it was ordered IN BULK. Then it’ll take longer. Most everything else has at least a three week turnaround time, with wearables have at least a six week turnaround time, depending on what they are. Of course we strive to get things out in a timely fashion. But once, again, everything here is made by, packaged by, and shipped by HAND, so things take awhile. Have patience. You will get updates on your order as a progresses, including progress photos, so you can see how things are coming together!

Please note that CHECKING IN ON YOUR ORDER EVERY DAY WILL NOT MAKE IT SHIP ANY FASTER.

I do offer international shipping at the best discounts that I can find for your area. However, once again, when something leaves our studio, it is out of our hands. Most international shipments have a timeframe of THIRTY-TO-THIRTY FIVE DAYS. I cannot guarantee a specific date on those days, UNLESS you paid for VERY SPECIFIC shipping.

What type of payments do you take?

At in person events: Square, Venmo, Apple Pay and PayPal. All of these offer some variety of choices in terms of payment, including: directly from your bank, Mastercard, Visa cards, Discover, etc.

On my website, I take all major credit cards, PayPal, and Klarna - which is like AfterPay, for those unfamiliar.

When do you ship?

Whenever the make is done, for a single order, or Monday/Tuesday for a bulk order.

Please note that if you order something on a Friday, even if I drop it off on a Saturday, it likely will not properly ship out until Monday. Especially for US based packages, unless you have expressly ordered “Next Day Shipping”. This is ONLY applicable to ready-to-go items in the shop. Does NOT apply for custom orders.

Will there be Insurance on my Packages?

For small order? Only if YOU pay for insurance. I will have to go into UPS or USPS to have them manually add insurance. This will be an extra cost to you. Anything over $300 will automatically come with insurance if it’s a crochet make. All crochet hooks will come with insurance, as is. Safety Eye Orders of $100 will come with insurance, as well.

What about tracking?

When the package is shipped, provided that you put in an email address when you ordered, you will AUTOMATICALLY get a shipping notification. I ship through all major carriers, so that email should contain a clickable tracking number for you to click through to and catch the updates for. We are not responsible for whether or not you check that email, routinely. So please wait until AFTER the delivery date to ask about your package. If you have NOT yet received your package, AFTER the delivery day, there is not a whole lot we can do, but we can get in touch with the carrier to find out where you package may be. Again, this is why if you’d like something insured, please PAY FOR THAT PRIOR TO THE SHIPPING OUT OF YOUR PACKAGE. We are NOT responsible for lost mail, otherwise.

I’ve seen a lot of your videos, what materials do you use?

Where can I find you online?

I’m on every major social media platform, however, for reasons, my Twitter (X) is my least used account. You can find the same posts and more on BlueSky, rather than there. I am also on Lemon8, Twitch, DeviantArt and Flickr, though those are also less used than Instagram, Facebook, Discord, and TikTok. It’s all under the same handle (@sweetieknots). All links are linked at the top right of this website or down in the footer.

Still got a question? Please reach out to us, via our contact page! Be as specific as possible and we’ll get back to you soon!
